Unseen Burden is a dance performance that explores the environmental impact of waste, dumpsites and contaminated soil in 5th Ward. It focuses on the importance of cleanliness and community action. Through compelling movement and narrative, the work portrays the destructive cycle of pollution and the communities role in transforming neglected spaces into healthier environments.

This show is outside! So, bring your lawn chairs, blankets and pack snacks and beverages. Be prepared to enjoy a powerful and inspiring performance. With the music score done by Uwazi Zamani, a cast of 5 dancers and narration by Loren Holmes, this experience will leave you asking yourself how can you help 5th Ward become better because of what you now know.

After the show, there will be a brief talk back with the director and cast. Then….we will be partying in the park! DJ Yung Chris will be spinning some good music for us to dance and be in a community with one another.

To add action to our cause, we will be having signups for a clean up that will take place on June 28th. Signups will take place at the show but you can also email heartsinmotionhou@gmail.com for information on how you can volunteer.

This show is funded in part by The City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance. Loren Holmes is a recipient of The City’s Initiative grant.
